What’s up, Bitches? You offended by this statement? Many women are, and rightly so. Bitch is used quite often in everyday language, in the media and in TV and movies.

I must admit that I didn’t realize until somewhat recently that “son of a bitch” was a slur against someone’s mother. I guess I focused on the bitch part and the fact that the person receiving the slur really deserved a tough name calling.

I was recently re-reading Sara Douglass’ series the Wayfarer Redemption series for the one millionth time and noticed a startling trend in the language. Bitch is used quite often in reference to women which is surprising as the author is female. Not that women don’t use that term to describe each other, heck it’s used more often than most words.

I think it’s the continued repetition of the word that bothers me. Bitch is used by men and women, both equally as offensive. Yes, a man calling a woman a bitch seems a bit harsher, but women shouldn’t be excused for using it either.

I think the reason it’s used so often is the way it rolls off the tongue: bi-tttt-ch. Sounds real good when someone is pissing you off.

Bitch is just a word like any other curse word. Sticks and stones, right?

Much like the n-word, it’s the history behind it; the degradation of women by men. And now we use it against our sisters.

Similar to ho, slut, skank, tramp, twat etc., these words are used against us, to woman kind specifically. How many degrading words are there to describe men? Dick, prick, wanker, bastard?

A word is a word. I admit to using the word bitch on occasion but always feel guilty afterwards. If I’m mad at a woman, I should be mad at her as a person, not at her gender.

Hopefully mainstream media will catch on to this and use genderless slang to put someone down.

Fuck, yeah shitheads.
